Business Cards:  How many times have you received a business
card from someone at a networking meeting, business group
introduction or multi-company function only to get back to the office
and stash the collected cards until you have time to consider it as a
valuable connection? Once you
do get back to the stack of cards, can
you put a face to each of those businesses? Wouldn’t it be easier to
remember that person, your impression of them or their personality, if
their card included a current headshot?

Headshots are personal. Photographs of your store front, your
products or your logo may be effective in promoting your business, but
wouldn’t you rather your customers remember
you?

Website Photography: Consider the impact you will make on your
customers if you are using high quality, professional-looking
photographs on your website. With so many cell phones, tablets and
other media devices offering the ability to
shoot pictures, be careful
not to let your company’s image be created by an impression of
sloppiness, by “getting things done quickly, easily and cheaply." You
probably want your customers to call on you because they are
confident that you will take the time necessary to do things well, that
you will put forth the effort to be sure things are done properly, and that
you are willing to invest in resources that will give them the best quality
and service possible. Yes, photography reflects
all that.

Be sure those images on your website convey the best parts of your
business, including your products, your people, your equipment, your
location and your personality. Include photos of people enjoying your
goods and services. Show images that reflect people being happy
because they trusted you, and that you fulfilled or exceeded their
expectations.

Advertising to a Fast-Paced Customer Base: You know how busy
you are. Your customers are probably just as busy, and not only do you
need to be considerate with the amount of their time you use, you
should also try to win them over quickly before they turn the page of
that magazine or newspaper, or scroll to the next website image. You
have to capture their interest quickly. Photography does that. They can
see a photo and get a story from it a lot faster than reading a
paragraph, or even a headline. So consider using impactful, eye-
catching images that are different and interesting.

Keep it current.  Many times I have received business cards or
brochures from real estate professionals that portray a headshot that
is outdated. I can tell immediately when they share a photo of
themselves looking 15 years younger, they are sporting a completely
different hair style (or color) and their clothes are from the 80’s. My
impression…? Unfortunately, I would imagine they had not been
successful enough to afford a more recent photo, or that they were
more concerned about their image than their honesty. Either
impression is not a good one.
Keep it current.

There are many other elements in a marketing plan that would
effectively utilize high quality photography, so think it through and apply
it to your business. Construction companies… Show off the detailed
wood work in your high quality upgrades. Independent boutiques…
show off the freshness of your bath and body products by featuring
images of your merchandise with fresh flowers and herbs.
Restaurants, you could purchase a full page ad in the newspaper and
describe in detail with words your best steak …or as they say, “a
picture is worth…”

You get it.

Photography in Business: Marketing for Success

I have been marketing my business for over 12 years. It has evolved, as most businesses do, but one thing has
remained the same… the importance of photography.  That’s not just because
I have a photography business, but
because photography is key in marketing
any business.

Consider a few of the elements that can be a part of any business marketing plan, and the strategic impact high quality
photographs can make.
